Okay, I’m no big fan of Sport Utes. I don’t particularly like them in any variety, even though I do have an unexplainable desire for a Volvo XC90. So my first reaction to these conceptual renderings was very likely the same as yours: “Kill It With Fire”. But hold on there, Sparky. Let’s talk about this a little more. Lamborghini has produced a Sport-Ute before, the “Rambo Lambo” LM002; they’re born from tractors, so the idea of them building trucks isn’t as wild and foreign as we might think. But there’s another point as well. Would you be more interested in a Sport-Ute it if were powered by a mid-engined V10, for instance? The designer in this case has suggested that the concept would have to be mid-engined to stay true to Lamborghini heritage. From a functional standpoint, this is idiotic; in a SUV, there is no point in having the engine anywhere but the front. But from a Lamborghini perspective, it makes perfect goddamn sense. Lamborghini has always been about batshit insanity, so why not inject a heavy dose of batshit insanity into a SUV? Food for thought; what say you, Hoonigans? Is it apocryphal, or brilliance?
