Don’t adjust your screen, yes it’s that color. Personally, I think it’s far more interesting to have a pink BMW M4 over something black, gray, or white. Regardless, the most interesting thing about this particular M4 isn’t the hue; it’s the gearbox backing up that twin-turbocharged straight six. This one’s got a stick!
BMW still offers a handful of M division cars with a row-it-yourself transmission. Power goes out back. The engine lives in the front. This is the proper setup for tire-centric hooliganism, and it’s a hoot here. Sure, the face of this thing is still incredibly ugly, but it’s a sharp machine from all the other angles. Plus, when you’re behind the wheel, you can’t see the snout.
Still, the M4 leaves me with a question: is it a sports car or a grand tourer? The answer lies somewhere in between. It’s absolutely a sporty coupe thanks to the 473 horsepower engine up front. There are drive modes to sharpen up all the various things that can be adjusted, and the performance is top-notch. Still, it’s heavy as the curb weight is nearly 4,000 pounds. It’s also nice inside, even if it’s a little overzealous with all the apps available on the screen. So it’s not as sporting as it could be, which is why BMW has offered CS and CSL versions over the years.
I believe this car lives between the true sports car and grand touring spaces. It’s a sports tourer, which is a wonderful segment I just made up. At least, I think I did, and that’s all that matters anymore, right?
Peppa Pig the Car does a great job making you smile when you want to devour corners… or when you want to eat up miles on a long road trip. I’d just order it in a different color.
