The Nissan GT-R has been a bit of a polarizing machine since it’s arrived years ago. Some love it while others feel it can be a bit soulless.
Regardless, there’s no denying its potent performance. Additionally, the car has only gotten faster, better, and more potent year after year. The latest and greatest version has spent time with the capable hands from the Nissan Motorsports division; otherwise known as NISMO.
The GT-R Nismo ups the crazy speed. It ups the crazy levels of grip, acceleration, stopping performance, and overall track-focused insanity.
Maybe it finally ups the number of people who love it for the absolutely focused machine that it is…
[Disclaimer: Nissan tossed us the keys to the GT-R Nismo for a few days. Our heart and brain thank them… our back has different feelings.]
Nissan GT-R Nismo: Do you love the latest & greatest?

Can you toss the keys to me next?

The GT-R issue isn’t just one of soul-lessness. For me the issue was that its capabilities tower way beyond those which can be charted by mortal drivers.
A car which will cope with any demand you issue it, multiplied by a power of ten, is bound to feel a bit alien. You want to feel like you’re working with the car as a partnership. Unfortunately with the GT-R you always feel like a bumbling sidekick. The car is just so damn clever it really doesn’t need the likes of us slowing it down.
It’s best to be seen as an ultra-high-speed workhorse rather than as a plaything. -
I’d love to give it a fair shake to form my opinion. Three years ought to do it.

Lance Hunt drives an automatic. Captain Amazing drives a stick shift.

I loved the shot where the camera car was following and the GT-R just… took off. Last time I saw taillights disappear that fast, I was trying to keep up with a Tommy Kaira M20b (bonkers tuned Subaru) in my little Honda.
I like the GT-R exactly because it doesn’t have the supercar attitude. You know it’s fast and expensive by looking at it, but it seems like a car-guy car instead of a rich-guy car.-
Exactly why real car guys, (as opposed to fan-bois) like GT-Rs.
