On this date in 1940 Ford agreed to build Rolls Royces. Actually, Edsel Ford agreed to a request by the Office of Production Management (OPM) for Ford to produce 9,000 Rolls Royce Merlin engines, intended for American and British wartime aircraft.
We’ll make no such monumental request of you, just that you try and solve this week’s Mystery Car. Remember to include the make and model if you do!

That bump looks like the hood of a first gen DSM – Mitsubishi Eclipe/Eagle Talon/Plymoth Laser LOL
Engine is a 4G63 2.0l 4..
But it can’t be that easy can it?-
Bump is on the wrong side.
-
Nope. Their bump is less rounded at the sides. Also not a Gurney bubble, nor a TR4 or 5.

Normally these are so far outside my wheelhouse that I give up quickly, but this one has piqued my interest. Of course, I still can’t figure it out. I thought it was an Opel GT for a while, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.
-
Oooooh, that’s the closest yet, but you’re right – that edge above the bump ruins the theory. I wonder if there was maybe a special edition or concept version?

I’ve seen that bump somewhere, I am going to die hitting my head ont he wall trying to remember!
-
Okay I’m stumped, but I’ll pass on my observations:
1) Look at the headlight in the bottom left. The style makes it seem like it’s no earlier than the 80’s.
2) This is a really short hood(?), so somewhere around 4 cylinders(?)
3) Is that some kind of indent or fold near the middle?
4) Some kind of vent/intake at the top.-
Given how short it is, I’m not entirely convinced we aren’t looking at something rear-engined. Still no idea what, mind you.
-
Hmm… You might have something there. Depending on your perspective, I guess that depending on your perspective, that “light” could also be a windshield, or rear glass. Damn, this is frustrating!
-
-
The hood of a rear engine, maybe?
-
Very possibly, but then the “light” would become a rear window, based on colour.

Opel GT Hood with unknown front end?
-
That looks like a hood bulge all the way down the far right. If so, we’re only seeing half of the hood width. That still doesn’t help me but it might help someone else. Reminds me of a shock tower bump a la the 1988-92 Ford Probe but this bump is more prominent and closer to the hood edge.
-
First gen Ford Probe. One bump over each front strut tower.
