Welcome to another edition of Mystery Car! This week we are traveling to a time automakers would advertise engine components in big letters on the side of their vehicles. But what vehicle is this? Make, model, and of course engine. Please. Winner gets our admiration and nothing else.
Last week’s vehicle was my Polish auto-journalist friend’s Toyota Starlet. It’s in great condition. Where he changes cars more frequently than I wash my cars, this one he’s keeping forever. Congrats to Jude Thaddaeus for the right, and very quick, answer.
Chrysler Laser circa 1988 or so?
Looks like a Dodge Lancer Shelby (although I owe Number_Six and joby for the Mopar lead).

I always thought this vehicle was handsome. Not sure if I still feel that way.
I think the regular Lancers/LeBarons have held up pretty well, although it’d have been nice if they stuck around just long enough to get composite headlights. The Shelbys are – let’s call it period correct.

There was some overlap where Lebaron was an H-body, a J body, and a K-body, simultaneously. The J-body stuck around the longest, and eventually got composites.

I’ve spent the last 5 minutes trying to will this thing into a mid ’80’s Pontiac Sunbird Turbo 2.0 because of the wheels but the space from the door to the wheel is too small for that. I agree with you and think that it’s a Spirit. Possibly a 4 door? Most of the Charger wheels had round holes in them and not slots.
Subaru XT, pretty sure it had a 1.8T in it
I was thinking Legacy RS, but it appears the Dodge boys might have it
Isuzu?
At the other end of the world, this was known as the Toyota Starlet which came with 1000cc, 1200cc and 1300cc engines if I recall correctly. Made in the late 70s and early 80s… These were turned into some pretty amazing rally cars – either with their (modified) factory engines, or with a somewhat larger transplant.
Showed it to a friend who instantly said “Plymouth duster turbo” Or a Shelby lancer turbo.
Good car
I really like these cars. I even have a couple of pictures of rare Toyota Starler models, of which there are only 10 in the world. I also shot video with them with my then old camera. Then when I wanted to watch my little car vlogs on my mac, I couldn’t get the video to open. It turned out that the format was not suitable and outdated already. Fortunately, I have friends who know a lot about computers and who advised me to format the video in mp4 using Movavi Video Converter for Mac.
