Hooniverse Asks- What's the Weirdest Automaker Hookup?

Triumph Acclaim (2) I recently listened to the TED Radio Hour show Brand Over Brain, in which it was postulated that we as a species have brand affiliation ingrained in our DNA. That’s sure the case with our personal attachments with certain car brands, but I think that many a brand advocate would be surprised at just how little of their favorite model might have been built by the company whose badge it carries. Sometimes that percentage is none. Over the decades there have been tons of car company hookups that have resulted in cross-breeding of models resulting in cars and trucks that, upon visual inspection, are obviously not cut of the same cloth as their adopted parents. The Early Honda Pilots, and reciprocal Isuzu Oasis’ are prime examples, but are far from being alone in the game of automotive charades. Come to think of it, the Daihatsu Charade was almost a Toyota once. Lancias masquerading as Saabs, Subarus also pretending to be Saabs, the list goes on and on. But what is the most audacious example of cross-brand cross-breeding? What do you think is the weirdest automotive hookup? Image source: honestjohn
