This is a safe space… you can talk to us. We understand. That project car you thought would be done by now is still in pieces, sitting there in your garage almost mockingly so. Perhaps I am speaking in a projected manner of my own internal monologue, but I want to hear from you all as well. How is your project car coming along?
This isn’t a post to talk about my Mustang Table because that’s where that one still sits at the moment. Instead, I want to be inspired by how far your own projects have come. Or commiserate with those of you staring at unfinished greatness in your own garage.
Spill it… how’s it going?
The Bride of Frankenstein is not only complete, it’s been shipped to Portland for exhibition in this year’s One Moto Show.
hells yes!
Is it bad that my old daily driver has now become a project car? My 2012 F150 seems to be disintegrating – right before it becomes my soon to be 16 year old’s daily driver. The blend door actuator went out, then the mode door actuator went out a week after that – and I STILL can’t figure out what is wrong there. Using a bore scope, I can see the little flapper door open and close, but I still can’t get full defrost or full floor, only vents. Now, the rear passenger door is tore open and hopefully tomorrow I’ll be able to find time to replace the door latch and the wiring harness. Wonder what’s going to go out next?
That sounds like a serious pain in the ass… in other news, my Montero is back at the shop. This is the life we’ve all chosen. Sucks that your reliable car is the one being unreliable.
Staring at my wife’s Mazda CX-5, contemplating when it’s time to trade that one in…
My biggest problem is getting distracted by new shiny things. I’m rebuilding a 76 CB550 but just drug home a parts bike for my (mechanically perfect) 02 R1150GS and then this week I got a lead on a clean and original 72 CB750, I’m going to pick that up today. Oh yeah, then there’s the KZ440…that one’s basically done though, just waiting on carbs. I might have a problem.
I have no idea what you’re talking about. None whatsoever.
damn that is a cool bike
my diesel MB 190 is closer and closer by the…….month. i’m swapping a turbo OM602 in place of the original NA OM601, on which i blew a head gasket nearly two years ago. the engine runs and has been in the bay since last summer, and now it just needs cooling, glow plug wiring, and a few other things before it’s good to go.
various factors limit the time i’m spending on it. i bought a new-old E36 M3 that has needed dialing in, and i’ve been traveling for work in said M3 for most weeks of the last few months. i find an hour or two per week to tinker with the bimmer, and maybe two or three hours a month for the benz. the slow pace used to bother me, but i’ve come to realize that when it’s done i’ll just find other dumb projects to occupy my time. so there’s no rush. it brings me pleasure to slowly work on the project car, and it will someday bring me pleasure to slowly drive it.
I can’t remember the state of my projects the last time I posted here, lol.
The Thunderbird remains almost as neglected as the wombat, but it still runs and drives, so I do get it out a few times a year.
The Boxster is gone, victim of a deer strike last fall. The deer was already dead in the road and I didn’t see it in time and hit it at 70+ MPH. Went airborne and was somehow able to get to the side of the road. Insurance totalled it and I came out pretty good. It ended up on Copart and I left a note stashed in the storage compartment. I heard from the buyer and he’s almost got it back on the road.
The replacement for the the Boxster as my next daily / project is a 1991 Dodge Stealth R / T Twin Turbo. Very clean, unmodified with 91K. I’ve got a list of mostly minor fixes that it needs. I’ve had the HVAC display rebuilt and replaced the power antenna with a stubby. Still needs the tach and speedo capacitors replaced, blown speakers replaced and some paint correction. The big items are the timing belt, which I’m in the middle of now, and maybe a clutch. It’s been fun so far.
