Is this drink a bit of Absolute Marketing Genius?

I’m writing tonight from the mean streets of Valencia, Southern Spain, where I am lucky enough to have been sent for 48hrs of “Training” by a certain German manufacturer of luxury sedans, coupes and 4x4s, who will remain nameless. But who are based in Stuttgart. And also make lorries. They pay my mortgage so I feel obliged to suggest that you all buy more of their products. Thanks.

And the subject of this post is a can of fizzy drink. Not just any old soda, but a Mercedes AMG branded Energy Elixir, presented in a canister of similar proportions to one of Red Bull. I thought it worth posting about as it made for an interesting metaphor for the AMG driving experience. Well, that and the fact that my brochure collection is a three hour flight away and thus R.A-S.H posts are a sight tricky.

Taste test after the jump.

Er, it tastes like Red Bull.

The tea-coloured liquid within is “made in Austria”, or so it says, so the stuff could conceivably be Red Bull. But it might not. Certainly it does all the required caffeine-boosting, headache-escalating work that the drink that Gives You Wings (TM) boasts about. That and it has a picture of some tarmac on the front.

(Disclaimer: Apologies for the outrageously high noise levels in these photos, taken around midnight on a phone camera at ISO Eleventythree)

RoadworkUK is the online persona of Gianni Hirsch, a tall, awkward gentleman with a home office full of gently decomposing paper and a garage full of worthless scrap metal. He lives in the village of Moistly, which is a safe distance from London and is surrounded by enough water and scenery to be interesting. In another life, he has designed, sold, worked on and written about cars in exchange for small quantities of money.

When did Borgward move to Stuttgart?

        1. I've been playing a lot of Euro Truck Simulator 2 lately. The grille on new Scanias drives me absolutely ape; the upper half, at least, is crying out for paint.

          1. That looks like a fun game for the type of person who obeys traffic laws in GTA.
I'm kidding. Mostly. It does sound really tedious, but in a fun way? I have spent a cumulative several hours restoring Porsches in NFS5.
Much like a typical Porsche owner's restoration experience, this consists of pressing "repair all" and hearing a *Ka-ching!* sound. Then you can sell the car for a profit. This is a much faster way to make money than actually doing races.
I was hoping someone would reply something along the lines of "something something 4x4s?" And then I could

But there's no reason not to do that anyway.

          2. Yup, glad you did anyway.
NFS:PU was awesome, largely because it introduced the young-ish me to the 550 Spyder. There was something about taking the 550 Spyder out on the Autobahn track that just felt right…

        2. Looking at that photo makes me want to go back and visit the Queen's playpen again.

  2. You made my day! I am very happy and relaxed too that I find this blog. I was looking for the matter discussed in blog post. If you have some more blogs on the material please share those as well. Thanks a lot and keep sharing such useful information.
