The clearly delightfully insane minds behind the Build It Yourself YouTube channel have been undertaking what is easily one of the best project car builds out there. The heart of it all lies with Ford’s wonderful modular engine. No, not the 4.6 or the 5.0. Not a 5.2 or even the giant 5.8. Nope. This pair is crafting a custom version of the 6.8-liter Triton, and the plan is to make it sound like a Formula One car while it hides behind the bodywork of a 2017 Lincoln Continental.
How? Yeah, that’s the right question to ask.
Thanks to custom headwork, this mega mill has been converted from a 2-valve motor into a 4-valve setup. It wears a pair of drive-by-wire throttle bodies, which should allow for instant throttle response. The whole process exits out of dual five-into-one headers. It’s also a football field wide and weighs over 700 pounds.
Still, it sounds truly epic. I have no idea how the pair will package this thing into the nose of the Lincoln, but if they’ve come this far, they can clearly work it all out. And when it’s finally ready for its first roll down Woodward Avenue (They’re based in Michigan), I eagerly await the footage of it running and driving.
What a build, what an engine, and what an insane undertaking. If we still did Hooniverse Car of the Year, this would be an easy candidate for a nomination.
What a wild idea. I want this seen compared to a GZG50 Century…
