I have spent more time than I want to admit watching various automotive auctions on the TV. It’s good background noise and occasionally something very interesting comes through in between what seems to be a sea of classic American muscle cars in various tastes of modifications. Prices vary from “OMG, that’s a steal, I wish I bought that!” (usually something foreign) to “who the eff would pay that much for this thing?!” (usually something relatively new and modified). 
In all, for most of us it’s entertainment. But part of me wants to see what exactly happens at these auctions, off the screen. This is why I will be attending the 2017 Barrett-Jackson Northeast Auction at Mohegan Sun.
The auction has been going on since Thursday. If you’re not in front of your TV or if you have cut the cable, the auction is being streamed here. I will only be there on Saturday, the last day. For a preview of what’s there I started browsing the lots. 
To my surprise, there is a lot more than just muscle cars. Below are a few cars that stuck out to me. The whole list is here. What’s most interesting to you?


Lot #600 – 1987 Polski Fiat 126P – if this sells for more than $5000 I will import a dozen of them.

Lot #789 – 1992 BMW 325i convertible – Last of the E30s and with low mileage. Too bad it’s automatic and convertible.


Lot #764 – International Scout Terra 4×4 – Given the pictures, this might fetch a ton of money.

Lot #734 – 1967 Amphicar 770 – Some guy in his mid-50s will buy this because he already has two other boats but still wants attention from his friends.

Lot #659 – Land Rover Defender 110 NAS – Great condition and low miles means lots of money!

Lot #647 – Dodge Power Wagon – How do you impress the Defender crowd in Nantucket? With this!

Lot #606 – 1975 Austin Mini Clubman – Given the fact that model is not the iconic Mini and is therefore somewhat obscure, it may sell for low money. 

Lot #21 – 1987 Pontiac Fiero GT – This 400-mile example just sold for $9900. So yea, this market is a bit nutty but not as nutty as the next car…

Lot #24 – 1990 Ford Mustang GT convertible – Stock, 53,000 miles, just sold for $27,500!!!

Lot #27 – 2007 Pontiac Solstice GXP – watch these cars skyrocket in value. The rare coupe versions are already selling for nutty money.
