The Mercedes-AMG G63 is a beast of a machine. From its 577-hp twin-turbocharged V8 engine to the triple-locking setup under the body, the G63 is ready to go anywhere. Especially when you add on the optional AMG Active Ride suspension system… just swap on better tires, though.
Mercedes has not changed much of the visual formula that is the G-Class. For good reason, of course, as it has an iconic shape, and it needs to retain that visual identity. Under the skin, however, the latest G-Class is available with a hydraulic-linked suspension system that removes the need for anti-roll bars.
The G63 can flatten out pitch and roll movements on pavement. Yet it allows proper articulation at each corner when needed. This allows the G63 to be truly excellent both on and off-road—a trick typically not as easy as it seems.
Still, with its starting price sitting around the $200,000 mark, you would think Mercedes-AMG would include the upgraded suspension bits as standard kit. Nope, you still have to pay extra for it.
Regardless, the G is a legend for a reason. It remains a luxurious mountain goat, even when shod in its compromise tires. Slap a proper set of all-terrains on there, and you could conquer any peak out there.
