Improving on already supremely super supercars is a tall task. McLaren, somehow, continues to do it. Every time the automaker produces an updated version of what seems like a now familiar formula, the results far exceed your expectations. Yes, of course, it’s going to be good, but how can it be that much better than the 720S it succeeds? The answer boils down to power delivery, interior comfort, better aero, and less weight.
I’ve driven this car already. McLaren invited a handful of folks to Nevada to see what the new 750S could do both on the road and out on the track. In short, it was stellar. Logging a few hours in the car never made for an aching back or sore legs, while ripping out for a bunch of laps at Las Vegas Motorsport Speedway revealed how exciting it is to spin that mill up to speed.
Here’s the basic fact sheet for the car: It has a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine and makes 740 horsepower. Power is sent to the proper wheels courtesy of a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, and yes, the chassis dynamics on this are excellent thanks to that cross-linked hydraulic system that works to effortlessly defy physics.
A 0-60 run in this car happens in the low two-second range. The quarter-mile disappears in under 10 seconds. And your money, if you were to spec one of these goes away in a big huff that starts north of $250k. Of course, a buyer of one of these doesn’t get a “standard” version. The one I test in the video above? It’s final tally with options is somewhere just north of $340k. A wild sum, to be sure… but this is most certainly a wild machine.
Did you subtitle the [Applause] into the video? 😛 Looks like insane fun despite that billionaire requirement. If we work hard and honest all our lives, we get there eventually, right? Right?
