Last Call: Wheelhouse Edition

Boomerang When Giugiaro debuted the Maserati Boomerang as a static show car at the 1971 Turin Auto Show its trashcan-shaped instrument binnacle housed futuristic but non-functional dials that swept gracefully across its face. A year later when the company returned to the show with a running example of the car—now based on the Bora—those custom gauges had been replaced by off the shelf dials and switches, all surrounding a central tach, and contained within a deeply dished four-spoke steering wheel. It was still weird, but it wasn’t quite as wonderful. Last Call indicates the end of Hooniverse’s broadcast day.  It’s meant to be an open forum for anyone and anything. Thread jacking is not only accepted, it’s encouraged. Image: SUPERCARS.NET
