A good navigation system, thought Kamil, but not a great navigation system.

Ok, that’s really funny. At least to me. And Rob.

My car hit a “mile”-stone today!

150000 miles (not km), with ~4000 miles put on under my ownership.

Pretty decent for a Ford Taurus, eh?

      Is that an SHO?

        Yep!

It’s a relatively stock, somewhat clean First Gen.

Neat, when I go to work tomorrow the SVT Contour should read 222,222 with 222.2 on the trip sometime after I go through the first of three lights!
I wonder how a high mileage SVT would fare in a standard Motor Trend comparo vs. a SHO?

            Neat!

I like it when things work out like that!

Oh, I would definitely read that comparo!

Here’s an unofficial one in the intern:

Looking at that speedo, it must be a ’90 or ’91? I haven’t driven a Ford lately, but a first-gen SHO is still on my vehicular bucket list.

But…only 5 digits? When did Ford switch to six digits? Volvo did in 1966; I always assumed that was an industry wide move.

Googling reveals Volvo, as usual, was ahead of the curve.

It appears to vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, and even model to model, probably based on generational updates.

Most seem to have switched in the 80s and 90s, which still makes the Taurus a late-bloomer.

Cool! I enjoy hitting mileage milestones. When I was in high school I got to take a ten minute break from my work at a catering company because my mom had dropped by in her Suburban which was about to hit 200k miles. I drove it around the building once and rolled it over to 200k and then I went back to work. It was especially special because it had belonged to my uncle who bought it new back in 1991 and ended up being murdered later that year.

I just got to see one of these at the Udvar Hazy Smithsonian. They have one hidden in the back room. So I had to go look up what this thing was meant for. I assumed it was for a Zeppelin given its size. I was wrong.
