Have you heard Random Access Memories, Daft Punk’s new album? The French duo’s latest is more a homage to ’70s disco than the beat-heavy techno of their previous releases. Befitting that theme, the band has “designed” a Formula One ride from a marque that also saw its greatest fame during the ’70s , that being Lotus. Here they are admiring their work at the Monaco GP. Check out the car’s synth-heavy preview here.

  1. Random access memories is the listening equivalent of thinking you are getting into a Ferrari and once you buckle in you find out it is a fiero.

        1. Sort of, my take is it's French House and have you ever watched Germans listen to House music? They often bob their heads like that. Just a silly video for a song.
My joke failed, cause I misremembered the movie Electroma as Electronica 🙁 Anyway, they drove a 412 for the majority of the film. Also Human Afterall (which that movie is based on) is my favorite or second favorite Daft Punk album depending on mood. So that was the joke in reply to Alcology that bombed.

          1. I hate it when jokes bomb. Especially in print. Cuz' it's there forever.
The dude's nodding his head out of time with the music. Every so slightly a bit behind the beat. Drives me sorta crazy.

    1. It's not what I've come to expect from Daft Punk, but then again, I'm not sure what I should be expecting out of Daft Punk.

  2. After hearing what the album is about thematically, on NPR the other day, "accessing electronic music's humanity" I like the ideas behind it. But I can't say that I like the music itself. Oh well, Tron: Legacy Reconfigured is still one of my favorite relatively recent albums and the car looks great.

        1. Thanks to you I've been exploring some of what Daft Punk has to offer through the day. I can't say I like it all, but some of it is pretty good.

          1. Yippie! What have you found that you like the best?

          2. Human After All and Make Love are really good. I like most of the Human After All album. I haven't really like much of what I've heard from Random Access Memories.

          3. HAA is often my favorite albumn, it has some rockingness to it, hard to describe. My other favorite is Homework, but that might be largely because it was the first I heard. Here's something neat about HAA, on youtube there is a version of Electroma with a TCR along the top. So play that, but click forward to when the timer is about 1 2 3 4 5. When it gets to 1:23:45:00, start the HAA album. You know you got it right when the vaguely train sounds just end and the next song starts (Robot Rock) just as the train goes by. CDs seem to have a bit of a delay, so you might have to wait a second or so with an ipod or what not. Another place to start is way earlier, like how it is in the video I posted above, then pause the music until after the next flames. In this way you sort of get videos for each song. Discovery is good too, but it's really perfect sounding and kind of drags after a few songs. But that is all solved if you watch Intastella5555 instead. Check that out if you haven't either, it's like one big animated video the the entire album.

  3. They're in Monaco to get lucky. Or maybe stoned.
[Yeah, so you have to listen to the album to get the joke. Also, I like Daft Punk.]

  4. This album has been on repeat in my car since I was able to get my grubby mitts on a legit copy of it. One of the best albums (taken as an entire album) that I have listened to in a long time.
