Hooniverse Asks- What is the Auto of the Aughts?

Time

Nearing the end of the nineties a dire panic set into the world’s populace. Well, at least the percentage that counted on electronics. Y2K turned out to be more dud than disaster, but it sort of gave the first decade of the 21st century a tarnished kick off. It’s kind of hard to pin down the general theme of the decade dubbed the aughts, outside of the terrible events early on, and the global economic collapse that saw it out the door, and both of those sucked.

When it come to cars it’s even harder to gauge what sets the decade apart from others. The Fifties were arguably the Corvette decade, and the Mustang owned the sixties. The next decade is a little harder to ID, but I’d argue that the ’70s were the Rabbit decade, and the ’80s were obviously the Taurus years. Owing to its jaw-dropping arrival and dominance of every sector, I’d anoint the ’90s as the age of the Viper, but I still can’t decide what car best represents 2001 through 2010.

Cars today are the best they’ve ever been, and in fact for the past decade, there were few cars that could be pointed to as truly wretched. Awful doesn’t usually make iconic, so we can at least exclude those from the roster. That still leaves a bunch from which to choose, and today I want to know which car – or truck – you think best exemplifies the decade of the aughts?
