For your Fastback Friday enjoyment, I give you one of the best muscle cars of all time: the 1967 Plymouth Barracuda.
I don’t know about you, but when I think of muscle cars, a few cars immediately come to mind – a 1968 Dodge Charger R/T, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396, and a 1967 Hemi ‘Cuda fastback. It’s smaller than the other two I mentioned, but it packed quite a wallop, especially when equipped with a 440. Let’s take a look at this one.
From the ad:
1967 Plymouth Barracuda fastback
318 engine , does not smoke .
Edelbrock 600 4bbl. carb.
15 ” Centerline wheels , good tires
Alpine sound system
fuel gauge & speedometer not working , front seats need upholstering .
needs front brake work
has collector plate , no tabs reqd. clear title in hand .
No trades
Details are somewhat limited, but I think we have enough here to get a good picture of what we’re looking at. The 318 was plenty capable for the job, considering the size of the car, and it looks to be in pretty good shape in this car. The big 4-barrell carburetor helps. So far, so good.
Thanks to Wikipedia, I learned that the front and rear bumpers are identical. This 3/4 profile really looks great to me; it shows that this is still a Valiant deep down, but it’s been chiseled and sculpted into a real bruiser. Nice color, too. For only $7,500, there are worse ways get your kicks.
So, how about you? Does this Barracuda take your bait, or is it just a fish out of water?

Beautiful car, seems like a good price if it's as clean as it looks. There was no Hemi Cuda in 1967 though. The only Hemi available in a Barracuda before 1970 was the 1968 Super Stock, of which they made 50.
Did someone say Barracuda?

If the real thing don't do the trick . . .

I always liked these. The way the window line curves up through the 3/4 window and then is continued at the top of the back window is very nice. I spotted a clean '68 in Santa Barbara a few months ago:

The tail end treatment is slightly different, plus it has the the Mopar-wide marker lights.
You know those cars that you'd really like, except that every time you think of them, they remind you of something you like better? 2nd Gen Barracudas are one of those for me. Neat enough car, but all I can think of how much more I'd prefer a 1st Gen fishbowl-back.

With a slant-6.
I go another direction…. I like the '68 fastback well enough, and the original is also of interest, but my preference is to stay in the late-60's and opt for the other roof.

The battery cables are a good clue as to what kind of care it has had.
I do not like yellow
And it still seems like a good deal.
I always liked the fold-down rear seat-backs. First time I ever saw that in a domestic coupe.
This is a cool car and the price isn't bad at all. I echo toxicavenger's comment about the battery cables, but also..what's with the cruddy engine bay on an otherwise nice-appearing car? An afternoon with a small selection of scrub brushes and some patience, along with 250.00 of replacement parts and rattle-cans would have had this looking much more presentable. But hey, that's me and if it'll knock off 500.00 from the ask, I'm ok with it.
I know I'm kicking the dead horse, but why are all the deals on cool cars from the left coast somewhere??
