Ah the 1960s… it was a grand time for American automobiles. The cars were larger, the engines were large, and the people were, well probably smaller than average MURICAN roaming around today. No matter, those old cars still exist and they’re offered up with a wide range of shapes, styles, engine sizes, and in varying conditions. Since it’s Friday, I get to choose one for my Fantasy garage, which means it’s going to be in great shape. The car above is a 1962 Pontiac Catalina. It’s no ordinary Catalina, however, as it’s actually a factory super duty lightweight version. Those fenders? Aluminum. The hood? Aluminum. The bumpers, read deck lid, headers, radiator support, and exhaust manifolds? All aluminum! This is a big car that’s been given an Al diet… and I want it. Under the hood sits the 421 Super Duty V8 engine. It was used in Pontiac’s NASCAR race machines at the time, and also found its way into a few factory offerings prepped for the street. Imagine pulling up to a stoplight in Anytown, USA back in the late 60’s, and there’s any standard muscle car idling to your left. The driver can see that you’re in a Catalina, but they don’t quite know which Catalina. The red light blinks into darkness for a second and before the green glow bursts into existence both cars set off. The only thing the driver notices is another set of red lights… the taillights of the Catalina, that are disappearing off into the dark distance. [sc:ebay itemid=”331307356539″ linktext=”The listing on eBay”] sits with zero bids and a starting price of $100k. I’m not sure what it would take to bring this thing home, but I do know that it will be a lot of money. This is a rare machine, and it appears to be in excellent shape. Were it my own car, I’d remove all of the stickers and badging so as not to alert others right away. They’ll figure out that soon enough that the car is something special. Alright, it’s your turn now… you’ve tuned out at work, so why don’t you share your own Fantasy Friday Finds in the comments below. [Source: [sc:ebay itemid=”331307356539″ linktext=”eBay Motors” ]]
