The Ozarks, I am quickly being reminded, is never short on rusty gold, diamonds in the rough that just need a little polishing to reveal their true quality. What we have here could be the next best thing.
As you all probably know (you’re Hoons, after all), the Eight was one of the hottest cars of the post-war period, and was the car that sparked a w hole new bgeneration of custom cars and hot rods. In my opinion, one of the best things Ford ever did was to introduce the Mercury brand, but that’s for another time. The ’49 Mercury is popular with the lowrider crowd and hot rodders even today. Which brings us today’s Craigslist find, which is really a few different Eights, or at least their parts.
I have a (mostly) complete 1949 Mercury Coupe with lots of additional parts. No engine or transmission. Also have a second chassis. Car is missing the driver’s door, but I do have (2) doors from the driver’s side of a 4-door car that can be sectioned together to make a door. Also have a complete roof section in excellent shape. I have a dash and a complete set of original gauges in good condition, rear glass, enough original sections to create a one-piece grill, buckets to french 59′ caddy taillights. There’s probably more that I’ve forgotten. Car is at my Dad’s house in Ozark, MO and he will be the contact for questions and showings.
No engine, no transmission, doors from a sedan, roof from another coupe, and a spare frame. This, my friends, has all the makings of a classic abandoned project syndrome, or APS. We all know friends who have been affected by APS, and we all know how serious it can be.
This seller knows that APS is no joke, and is helping his dad take steps to cure himself.
Who in your life has been affected by APS?

Is there even a chance that this pile of random Mercury parts is worth the $3500 asking price? I’m just not seeing it.
MAYBE, if it isn’t too rusty. It beats over $3500 for this! http://www.easyrods.com/ford.html
I’m seeing a lot of rust, and that’s just what I can see from the pictures.
Dream on, seller. You expect me to weld two sedan doors together to make a coupe door. That’s just one tiny issue in this $3500 nightmare. It could be worse, however. I found an ad on Oodle asking $17,500 for this…
Guess they figure the buyer will be doing lots of custom fab work anyways.

If we ever do an Encyclopedia Hoonatica on big blind spots, this would probably be the winner, especially since there doesn’t appear to be an outside mirror. Changing lanes must be fun…
I wonder if there isn’t a camera hidden somewhere.
A spotter at the main intersections.
“Car high! Car high! Clear!”
I’d pay that, if I could start it up and drive away as-is.
I guess you’re taken by the slight patina.
“To Dream The Impossible Dream…”
I saw glimpses of this Merc on your previous post concerning this event. I’m glad that you’ve given us a full photo of this beauty.
