The winter months can be the hardest without actual motorsport. But at least we have the sounds of testing to hold us over.
Above is a 2019 Toyota Prius Super GT testing with its mid-engine setup and DTM-style wing. This particular Prius is powered by a 3.4-liter naturally aspirated V8. And it sounds glorious. In race form, the horsepower numbers come in close to 500 hp and it has to be the best styled Prius to date.
The Prius Super GT is developed to compete in Japan’s Super GT series, specifically the GT300 class. Lexus represents Toyota in the top GT500 class since the elimination of the Supra. It is safe to assume that Toyota will be re-entering the top class with the rebirth of the new Supra next year. We hope.
While we’ll never see anything this great in a Prius road car, we can hope for a TRD version on par with the Avalon and Camry TRD’s from early this year.
Of all the bodies they could of put on this car, why the Prius?
Worth mentioning the GT300 Prii competed against a Honda CR-Z (which also mirrored its production counterpart in being a hybrid) for a few years.

These Priuses had the 3.4L
That new one is believed to have the 5.4L from the Lexus GT3 car
So I guess next there will be a Nascar Prius?
Brains would explode! Shortly followed by the internet
NASCAR Prius might not be competitive against the carbureted V8 Tesla model 3 Coupe though…
C’mon, keep up, they use electrickery fool injectoin now!
Although considerably cooler than its production-spec namesake, this is no more a Prius than NASCAR racers are Fusions and Camrys. Well, maybe a bit more, but hardly enough to warrant association.
No knocks against Super GT here– and I’m no fan of NASCAR in the slightest, despite growing up where it was (and I assume still is) very popular. I just think it’s more appropriate to call this car a “Toyota” than a “Prius”. The outer skin (especially as heavily modified as this) is a facade.
