The weekend continues with abandoned cars surrounded by snow. The cars posted yesterday were in reasonable shape at the very least, but the ones coming in today are either project cars or complete wrecks.
I’m starting with this 1993-model Peugeot 405 GLX, which stands out nicely from amidst all the snow with the still-lustrous red paint. It looks pretty far gone, even if these things do not rust too badly on the body panels.
The front grille is gone, and the corner does look a bit pushed in. That might be due to the snow plow packing the snow in, just as well.
The 405:s posted by Jay Ramey have had the gutsier 1.9 engine, sometimes in the 150-160hp Mi16 guise, but as this is a humble Euro model it only has the 88-hp 1.6-litre engine under the hood.
Someone has scraped the wheelarch quite badly, but it stands as testament to the Peugeot bodyshell quality that it hasn’t rusted yet. Something’s funny with the rear axle, as the car looks curiously jacked up. The rear axle is a common failure point on old FWD Peugeots, and it might be the first reason why the 405 is going the way it is. I’m also thinking the studded tires were mounted the winter before, not this winter.
You know, a jacked-up 405 like this would be rather handy in rough conditions. It’s almost African-spec.
