So this past week, this olelongrooffan was out on my local Florida Highway 9 lamenting the fact I missed seeing that awesome Cessna last weekend out on the other coast  up in Appalachia. Then I spotted his next ride. Suddenly, all was good.

  1. OT: Fair warning about checking parts from the stores…
I picked this weekend to replace the rotors and bearings on the truck. Having done this before, I anticipated getting grease in every orifice imaginable. It had to be done. Pick up the parts (rotors, inner-outer bearing, seal, grease and brake cleaner). Tear down the to the spindle, get it clean and proceed to pack bearings and lube everything up. Rotor on, bracket on, brake pads on and why are the pads sticking a half inch out over the rotor? Because Autozone's parts number is wrong and I didn't compare parts.
Break it all down, toss the greasy mess into the tattered box and make a return. The kid wanted to know what was wrong and we discovered the catalog wanted to put 10" rotors for the 2001 Ranger. We went to 2005 to finally get the 11" I needed.
Of course the 11" rotors were DOUBLE the wrong ones.
Bright side- I'm $2 away from AZ Rewards from getting $25.
And the truck rides like a freggin Lincoln.

  2. Just FYI, Speedy's on the east coast too, the Cessna was at CMP – Carolina Motorsports Park – which is in South Carolina. So not quite the other coast. 😉
p.s. it was awesome, and I got to drive it. Not on track though.

    1. I thought SpeedyCop was based out of the D.C.area and the California Motorsports Park (CMP) seemed to be logistically a challenge Thanks for the clarification.

    1. One of the coolest things about these choppers is how they can position the rotor transversely for an enhanced glide ratio. You can see in the pic above that the pilot is engaging this mode.
      /Happy April 1.

      1. I believe that is a lesser known combat attack tactic, to secure the engine, place the rotor in this manner, and execute a stealth dive maneuver. Truly amazing stuff!
