Just to add my two cents, the problem was NOT Ford’s sandbagging. The problem is sanctioning bodies that attempt to artificially manipulate competitiveness through performance indexes, sliding scales, variable restrictions and other ruling tweaks for individual teams. If race organizers weren’t tempted to play those sorts of shenanigans, Ford would not have been able to do what they did.
Here’s an old-fashioned idea that could bring me back as a motorsports fan: print the same damn rulebook at the beginning of the season for everybody, then take a giant step back and let slip the dogs of war. Best team wins. Period.
