Norwood P4-575 Makes Your 360 Modena Feel Inadequate

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the P4 …

Let me get one thing out of the way: as you might have noticed by how many of our “OMG drool” posts are based on Fantasy Junction offerings, the Emeryville shop is like some adult Wonka factory filled with licentious delights you can’t afford and might be bad for your health. Thankfully, unlike any respectable crack dealer, they won’t give you the first hit free, because if they offered me something like a Crossle 12F Formula B car as a gateway drug I’d steal anything not bolted to the floor to work my way up to this Norwood P4-575.

Were you expecting, perhaps, a VW engine?

Actually, looking at it more closely, “bolted to the floor” wouldn’t really be an impediment. Note that it isn’t some Fiberfab Valkyrie ripoff sporting a cheesy and insulting approximation of a worthwhile car and running an anemic VW four – the Norwood hails from some alternate universe where kit cars are as awesome as the originals, up is down, global warming heals the earth causing baby seals to happily bark, and car blogging geeks are worshiped as prophets (ha!). Let’s get the details out of the way – the 550HP Norwood packs an honest-to-goodness 550 HP Ferrari 4-cam V12 lifted out on an unspecified 365 variant (let’s hope it was a GT4 2+2!) bolted up to Porsche’s legendarily robust G50 transaxle. It’ll rip to 60 in a period-correct 4 seconds. It’s unfortunate that “550 HP!” and “0-60 in under 4 seconds!” don’t have the impact they should in a day when a STi can do that same trick by goosing the computer and giving the turbo plumbing a mild wedgie.
Just bury me right here, in the cockpit.

Luckily for this Norwood replica, it looks like the physical manifestation of the hottest sex that has ever existed in the universe, and it’s basically the closest you will get to a real Ferrari 330 P4 without assassinating every billionaire in the world. In fact, “kit” and “replica” aren’t really appropriate descriptors, because with only 3 real P4s extant, reality is terribly subjective. How real is real enough? When the $384,500 cost of your recreation is barely a down payment on the real thing, the build quality is probably better than the original, and it’s so impossibly hot your retinas will leave your body and get a stiff drink just to get the nervous shakes to stop.
Looking this good should be illegal.

Hop on over to Fantasy Junction and Norwood’s own site to read more about the P4-575. You will see wonderful, terrible things. We are not responsible if you go blind from teh awesome.

Might be entertaining to pop into AutoZone looking for a replacement cap.

I cant stop staring… it's like some sort of Tesla (the original mad genius version) invention.

I like the way the chap in the cap is hanging onto the wiper to stay on.
Anyway, back to car in question. I think that it puts Mr Glickenhaus' Pininfarina jobbie into perspective. The kit/replica is just so much more pretty, and can perform too.

Seen a few being built, been to the shop, got offered a job by Bob himself. Couldn't take it, no way could I move to Texas. A good college friend of mine who I've been trying to get onto the whole inter-blog-o-sphere thing works for him. He's been there for a couple years now and frequently works on the P4s. They've also got some pretty decent regulars who own Gumpert Apollos, twin turbo Lexus IS-Fs, assorted Lambos and Ferraris. I visit him as much as I can, I'll take some pics next time I'm down to through your way!

You can't move to Texas? Oh, right. The thing with the girl in the place. I thought you knew that was illegal when you did it.

Just because I knew it was illegal doesn't mean that I knew I shouldn't have done it …..

    Hell yes, Idaho plates.
Also, now I have A Certain Song stuck in my head.

The motor is out of a Maranello, and I would hope to God they would get rid of the damned belt driven cam system. Gears are cooler, and you don't have to worry about lunching about a $50k motor, from the belts drying and fraying.

This messes with my entire belief system. Seriously, recreations and kit cars are not supposed to be beautiful, unless they are officially licensed by Carroll Shelby or continuation models of a certain Lotus. I need to spend some time re-evaluating my concept of reality and truth, because it's obviously not right.

I know, sorta shakes you to your very core, right? Although I think this does swim in a class of super-high-end recreations – I know there are GT40 "continuation" replicas that are pretty much exact copies of the original, and cost accordingly. Which translates to: insanely expensive.
Someone should make a replica of the Norwood, and sell it for a fraction of the price …

The gold wheels and meaty tires really do it for me. Put those on a little 500 Abarth….

I listened to the video of the guy starting it up and revving it. It sounds like it would quit if he let it idle and it took about 5 or 6 seconds to start. And when he had it running it sounded like it was going to blow up. I would never pay 400 to 500 thousand for that piece of junk.
