Makellos Classics Cooks Up an Excellent 1972 Porsche 911

Makellos Classics has been cranking out some stellar restomodded Porsche 911s for some time now. I’ve driven a handful from the Southern California company, and each one leaves me more entertained than the last. This latest one is one of their best yet; a 1972 Porsche 911 done up as a lightly hot-rodded ST.

Starting with a ’72 is a smart move to attract the attention of classic 911 nerds. It was a unique year for the 911, as it debuted and then quickly got rid of its external oil filler location. This specific version has been resprayed in a gorgeous shade called Smyrna Green. The interior is finished in brown with dashes of a teal-like color. It all works, and it works rather well.

As for the car itself, its engine has been punched out to 3.5-liters. All manner of performance parts have been thrown at the chassis, and the fuel tank has been upgraded to a 100-liter rally-ready unit. This isn’t some crazy horsepower build, either. And that’s perfect. Makellos estimates it to deliver about 300 hp, which is perfect for a machine like this.

Yes, it is expensive. But if you’re after a Singer-like experience, you can get this for less than half the cost of one of those… and you don’t have to wait, either.
