From the picture above, it’s not hard to see why air superiority was not just an effective tool in WWII but also such a frightening and morale deflating one as well. The four guns in the nose of this P38 lightning are being tested on the ground here, in this long exposure image, which shows both the beauty and deadliness of this amazing machine.
Last Call indicates the end of Hooniverse’s broadcast day. It’s meant to be an open forum for anyone and anything. Thread jacking is not only accepted, it’s encouraged.

  1. Wicked. The P-38 is up there with the B-25 and P-47 as my favorite WWII aircraft. I’m guessing the pilot very much felt those four guns firing.

  2. Notice that the four 50s are firing but not the 20mm cannon. Having the weapons mounted in the nose instead of the wings meant there was no convergence angle required. Ira Bong was the leading Ace of the war with forty confirmed kills over the Pacific and Thomas McGuire was second with thirty-nine. Both in P-38s. …And it was designed to be an Interceptor- to shoot down enemy bombers- not as a fighter.

    1. Came here to say it was 4 .50 and 1 20mm, unless it was a photorecon bird, which had 4 cameras and no guns, Once again, what shit-head at Allison Air thought superchargers were a bad idea???

  3. I think this counts as the first time I’ve ever made any real modification to any car I’ve owned, which seems weird. Also, I managed to get my summer tires on before August, which is kind of a big deal.

    1. Hey cool! I hope you listen to C&T…I talk about my beloved Mazda2 quite a bit.
