The wonderful young lad who purchased my Benz is enjoying the car. In fact, he’s enjoying it far more than I did because he recently took the old blue machine out to an autocross day. Three cheers to this delightful fellow for going on and doing awesome stuff in an unexpected way.
Last Call indicates the end of Hooniverse’s broadcast day. It’s meant to be an open forum for anyone and anything. Thread jacking is not only accepted, it’s encouraged.
Very cool.
Any idea what the Hoon Truck is doing these days?
Yes actually. It was recently in for service at the same shop where my Benz wagon lives. The new owner swapped in a fresh 352 V8, so no more smoke out the back. It’s being used as a surf truck.
I got downvoted on the October 24 Last Call.
Those tend to be a rare occurrence on these pages–I’ve noticed probably fewer than 10 downvotes on Hooniverse since the switch to Disqus. I’m also not surprised that I eventually got downvoted on something, since I don’t tend to sugarcoat my opinions.
The question is, why that particular comment? Does Leroy Keyes (Heisman Trophy runner up) lurk here? Is it Fred Goldman worried OJ might get an endorsement deal on the new Bronco? Maybe someone’s OCD is telling them Lotus Sevens should all be British Racing Green, Ferrari’s should be Rosso Corsa, and Ford Broncos can only be white?
I got downvoted for calling Teslas merely “pretty good” the other day. The thin skin of the internet is usually a little thicker around here, but I guess hurt feelings can squeak through since they disabled the captcha test.
Call it a push.
I have been wondering a bit about that. We’re a pretty small group of people commenting here, but the articles and, especially, YouTube uploads get a lot of views. Lots of silent readers looking in to our fish bowl.
I haven’t noticed it being a significant issue. I think disabling Capcha is a solid win.
I would have actually upvoted your Tesla comment, but felt you were giving the company a bit too much praise with “pretty good”.
That’s odd… I’ve ever noticed a downvote on this site. Not sure why the O.J. image would be considered offensive. It pretty much expressed my feelings (positive surprise at how decent Ford’s design was looking), and I thought the clever association with the infamous white Bronco was well-played.
I don’t hold back on my opinions here, either, but the active members of this group seem to be generally respectful of honest disagreement and welcoming of constructive argument. If anyone were likely to draw a down-vote, I would have thought I would have done so long before you did.
I was being generous with my estimate of 10 cumulative downvotes on Hooniverse. I really don’t remember any since we had captioning contests and similar articles comparing popularity.
Disqus can be hot garbage on some mobile devices – clicks will register halfway up or down the page from where you are trying to point.
It results in a lot of phantom downvotes, so take it with a grain of salt.
I went through a spate of accidentally hitting downvote for a time (a few months back?), but then have another go and hit upvote which cancelled it out. Can’t promise that happened every time though.
If you vote accidentally, you can hit it again to toggle the vote off.
I wonder if those occasional downvotes would happen any less often if you could see who was voting (like you can with upvotes).
Hopefully it’s a weird lurker, I don’t think I’ve ever broken out a downvote unless it’s something egregiously offensive, which doesn’t come out of the normal commentariat here. I figure if I disagree that strongly, I can use my words.
Apparently I picked up a second downvote a couple hours ago.
