HCOTY 2017 Nominee: The Land Yacht

By Jeff Glucker Dec 18, 2017

Christopher Tracy wants his kids to stop staring at their screens. He’d rather they point their eyes towards the beauty of the world all around them. How is he doing this? By taking road trips with the family in his 1994 Toyota Land Cruiser. A Land Cruiser that’s been given the nickname Land Yacht.
The first order of business was getting the Land Yacht ready for duty. Tracy purchased the vehicle from his uncle, and it lived a busy life under the prior ownership. Chris set to work on the truck though, making sure that it would be up for adventures both on and off-road. And those adventures are already taking place.

They’ve explored an old ICBM silo site.

Made friends with a herd of buffalo.

And ventured well off the beaten path in Western Kansas.
Tracy is using his vehicle to allow his family a chance to learn more about the land all around them. They can do that by Googling, but it’s far better to do it by ogling.
Because the Land Yacht is the right tool for this wonderful job, it’s my nominee for the Hooniverse Car of the Year for 2017.

  1. These have been a great series of articles on Hooniverse this year. Chris’s desire to show his kids more of the world than is packaged up for their consumption shines through and he is clearly having a great time as well.
The Yot may not win HCOTY, but his kids will remember these trips forever.
