As I noted above, the four-pot rear-wheel drive form factor used to be extraordinarily common. Throw in a hard top and that could have described just about any small car from every maker across most of the world. Oh sure, the British got on the FWD bandwagon early on, as did the Italians, but they kept a few RWD platforms around in case FWD turned out to be a fad.
It didn’t, but it did take decades (actually pretty much two of them, the ’70s and ’80s) for FWD to become the de facto standard for small cars. That leaves a lot from which to choose, mostly from those eras, and the car I chose as last week’s winner actually pretty much spanned those decades. Discovered by Keifmo, this 1983 Volvo 242 GLT Turbo looks well broken in and ready to get down to business. Congrats to Keifmo, and thanks to all of you for such entertaining and interesting finds!

Whoops, did’t see you already linked to it, Mike.
But what of last week’s winner!? I had an awesome submission for this one last week, but it has sadly disappeared from the list of craig, so now I’m left scrambling for a replacement.

Okay, so it’s not original, packing a NAH imported diesel, and it certainly isn’t cheap, but my gods is it awesome.
