This is the new 2021 Acura TLX. More importantly, this is your first clear look at the TLX Type S. Acura is getting serious with its sedan, and this all-new version looks the business.

The standard car gets a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It’s good for an impressive 272 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. Acura is still mum on output for the Type S, but expect a car that should rival the performance of the current Audi S4. And I do mean rival, as the Type S comes standard with all-wheel-drive. Acura’s SH-AWD is a more engaging system than Audi’s Quattro, at least in my recent experiences. The Type S will be able to send up 70% of the available power to the rear wheels. Once there, the power can be split up to 100% in either direction.

Watch the video I shot above (for Autotrader) to learn more about this one. I think Acura has a potential hit on its hands, even in a world where no one buys sedans anymore. Knowing how past sporty Acura sedans have driven, I’d happily take this over the German offerings from the same competitive set.

    DISAGREE! I think they threw some great design at this thing, especially in the current era of MORE IS MORE. The grille, relative to the competition, looks excellent. The three-quarter on it is great. And all the extra sporty style on the Type S works well.

    Are you a fan of the current Honda design language? I really like this, it has none of the transformer-surface that ruins the new civics. It’s more restrained than lexus, and even more so than some recent audis. Not all people want a sport sedan that shouts it’s presence.

    It’s going to be a fantastic cult classic in 20 years, but I think at best we’ll see a six month surge in old school Honda fans (who are admittedly aged into the demographic for a sedan like this), followed by sales that don’t break far into five digits.

    I think this looks fantastic and I’m really interested to see what the driving reviews say. I don’t think the white or the studio lighting is doing the car any favors. In other shots I’ve seen and other colors the car looks quite good. The gold looks good but may not age well. My preference would be the bright blue with the red seats.

    Yes, the hood is longer and the proportions are better, but they still clearly suggest the FWD platform. It’s not terrible like a Honda CR-Z, but it’s still not sexy.
