I am upgrading the suspension on my Montero in the coming month or so. Before the truck goes into the shop, they wanted me to get it on a scale. I did that, and now I know exactly how much it weighs.
How much do you think it weighs?
I’m running a little contest over on our YouTube channel. Folks are making guesses in the comment stream under the video. I’ll reveal the actual weight of the truck on Friday. Before then, I wanted to see what you all thought. And I’m not here to give any hints.
So you know the full version of my truck; it’s a 1991 Mitsubishi Montero LS with the 3.0-liter V6 and 5-speed manual gearbox. The tires are BFG KO2s and the wheels are 16-inch Fifteen52 Turbomac HD classics.
Have at it!
3,800 lbs soaking wet .
I’d guess roughly 4124 lbs. (A pound heavier might make more sense, but I have this weird OCD thing about numbers ending in 0 or 5.)
1400KG or whatever that is in old money.
I’m with you: it’s old so it’s MUCH lighter than today’s behemoths. Lack of crash safety saves pounds! In fact, given that it’s about a decade older than my PT Cruiser but bigger and with a bigger engine/4WD, I’d have guessed it would weigh about the same as the PT.
So I’m going with 3000lbs (1362 thousand-grammes).
Eleventy-seven kilohoons. That assumes Jeff kept his fat thumb off the scale when he weighed the Mitsu.

Hmm. Big tires, probably non-stock snorkel there, allowing for options and stuff…
4081 lbs.
Don’t forget the obligatory child seat. That’s probably good for 20 lbs.
Forget about the child seat, the accumulation of dropped food/drinks/unidentifiable matter produced by a child will far outweigh that.
does that weight include accumulated mud and dirt?
