Hooniverse Asks: Is there Anything in the Automotive World that Excites You Right Now?

By Jeff Glucker Jul 7, 2025

The world, in general, seems like a place where you may be struggling to find “wins” at the moment. You’re not alone in that feeling. Perhaps that notion extends to our favorite topic: all things automotive. Are you excited about anything in the automotive world right now?

I used a photo of a GR Corolla as the lead image on this post. That’s because it remains one of the most exciting new cars that I’ve driven in recent memory, especially when you factor price into the conversation. I’d add the Ford Ranger Raptor to that list, as well.

There are also coming advances in battery tech, if you’re interested in EVs. The capability of off-road-ready vehicles constantly seems to be climbing. And there are companies that still make sports cars and offer up manual gearboxes. There is good in the industry if you look for it, certainly. Just as there is in the world around us.

So what’s something happening in the automotive world right now, that makes you smile?

  1. I just made the jump over to an electric, a 2014 Fiat 500e with 46K miles and way, waaaaay depreciated (to my wallet’s delight). Not only my first electric, but the first time I’ve driven one… and it’s more fun than a barrel of monkeys on espresso!

And as the first car I’ve bought manufactured in the current century, this thing feels like a tiny spaceship inside, with power -everything- and an electric sunroof. It’ll light up the front tires given the slightest provocation (which my inner 12 year old is delighted with), and is probably the quickest car that I’ve had in decades… scary quick. And, after having to drive my Econoline for the last month because my Volvo Turbo wagon is laid up, I’m thoroughly enjoying flogging a tiny car once again!

  2. Iv been excited to see lots of cool classic cars hit the used market, but on the new market your right the GR models are pretty cool. Also cool to see what VW and Skoda are doing with some of their performance based models. Also we are lucky that Ford in Australia makes cool things like the Everest for off roads fans. Also some of the Chinese brands are making some very cool electric and hybrid cars like the Geely EX5 and the GWM Tank 500 and Cannon Alpha Hybrid ute.
