Gear Test: An Emergency Radio for CHEAP

By Jeff Glucker Aug 25, 2025

I love testing all sorts of gear. There have been camping chairs, lights, powered coolers, battery packs, and more. The latest bit of kit I am adding to my off-road stuff is this cheap, lightweight emergency radio.

For under thirty bucks, this thing serves as:

  • an AM/FM/Wide Band radio
  • NOAA Alert system
  • Phone/Device Charger
  • Flashlight
  • SOS/Alert Device

It features a solar power strip for powering up. But it also has a hand crank, an input for powered charging, and can also accept AA batteries. It’s an inexpensive way to add a bit more peace of mind for when you’re off the beaten path.
