2025 Audi SQ7 and SQ8 – First Drive

The 2025 Audi SQ7 and SQ8 are two sides of a very similar coin; one is a 500-hp 7-passenger SUV that can dispatch a twisty road with surprising ease, while the other is… well, a 500-hp 5-passenger SUV that can dispatch that same road with the same level of ease. Seriously, these things drive far better than you’d expect. All-wheel-steering and active roll control are wonderful things.

These are not light. They’re not little. Yet the magic of modern vehicular engineering means they drive far smaller than you’d expect. All of the mechanical and electrical bits work in harmony to make a three-row SUV or two-row coupe-like SUV feel actually sporty and entertaining. With all-wheel-steering, you have the ability to make both high and low-speed maneuvers a tighter, more focused event. A rear sport-tuned differential helps over-drive a given wheel to make a corner sharper. The air suspension dampens the action while the active roll stabilization keeps you flat through corners and sweepers.

Add all of that together, toss in a 500-horsepower twin-turbocharged V8 in the nose and pair it with a smart all-wheel-drive system, and you have a recipe designed to impress and surprise.
