Everyone thinks they can drive well… only few actually can.
One such Hoon (yes capital H for him) goes by the name Rob Krider. You may be familiar with his Racer Boy series over at SpeedSportLife, a great running column where he discusses what it takes to race at many various levels. You read the words he write, but can he actually back up the talk behind the wheel? Hop the jump to see a video of him drifting his way through an autocross course to a first place finish… pay attention to how many cones he hits.
That my friends… is how you whip it good.
Whip It! Whip It Good…

Good God that is AutoX at its finest. Man I wish I had the throw down capability of that car. All I got is this

I bow down to a great driver. -
Hoons McSmitty is my hero.
-
haha… we should create a Wikipedia entry for him.
-
I can see it now:
“One of McSmitty’s greatest feats occurred at the Pawtuwapee County Fair on August 7, 1909, when he did 79 successive donuts in an Oldsmobile Limited. Only the fact that the car ran out of fuel prevented him from doing any more.”-
I wonder if there’s a YouTube video of that…

Nice driving!
Happy two-year, Braff! Have fun!
Speaking of weekend…what is the scoop ’round here for weekends? Is there going to be a specific weekend editor to post fantastic car p0rn?-
We have nothing planned out so far, but based on a brief conversation, we don’t really have someone lined up to work on the weekends. I’m usually travelling all weekend, but I think I’ve figured out this whole “tethering” thing that Rogers Wireless has been telling me about, so I might toss up a few articles from in the car.
And, don’t tell anyone, but I don’t want to distract from Murilee. She’s dreamy.-
I see. If I had the time, and the talent(mostly the talent), I would love to contribute to this awesome site, but I digress. You are right about Murilee though, and I don’t blame you for not wanting to take away from that sexy beeyotch! I may find myself wandering next door from time to time to check out the weekend posts only because MM is still awesome, and is only an innocent victim of circumstance. But, if you fellas get a weekend grunt, I will tune in for sure.

This is a little bit off topic, but does anyone remember Murilee saying something about some writing that he was working on? It was in the comments section on one of his posts (I think) a while back. Is he working on a book? It may just be something I read into his comment. I hope not. If he is working on a book, I’d be the first in line to buy it!

I don’t remember any mention of a book, but I would be second in line for sure!

Honestly, I can’t tell you how much we appreciate the support. I’d share the 30-odd emails that have flown back and forth amongst the writers, but they’re so boring it’s not worth it. Needless to say, our gratitude is off the charts, and we’re trying very hard to provide material you’ll like. We’re not making a cent off of this — our ultimate goal is to cover the costs enough that it doesn’t cost Mr. Science anything to run the site — and we’re doing it all for free. Myself, I’ve put in three 10-plus-hour days working on it for free, and I genuinely hope you’ve all enjoyed the efforts.
I’m having an absolute blast, and I’m so relieved to see the positive response from everyone. I want everyone to know that we’ve received all the offers of help, and can’t thank you all enough, but just haven’t had time to even look at them. We’re going to try and get back to people individually over the next few days, but that’s if all goes well. We really do have the most amazing crowd of car-buffs anywhere. We’ve had people offer the services of their company — including a staff of techies — for free, just to help us out. Wow.
So stick with us, we’re going to be working hard to earn the respect you’ve shown us. I myself, on the other hand, have already realized that in my case, said respect is wholly undeserved, so I’m planning on posting more nonsensical babble along the lines of the rubbish I’ve posted so far. Hope you don’t mind too much!
And since our @hooniverse email is still giving us issues, if you’ve got suggestions, photos, or anything cool, send it along to me at iMITCH at GMAIL dot COM, and I’ll happily share it with the rest of the team. Except the good stuff. I’ll keep that for myself.-
iMitch?! Really? Thank god this isn’t iHooniverse.

You guys are doing an awesome job!!! I am here for the duration…I absolutely love this site! It as great to hear that so many have offered to donate time and effort to put towards your adventure. I would be glad to offer anything that I could as well, so if you need anything just let me know and I will try my hardest to help. Maybe all of us who drop by to comment can band together and figure out a way to generate some revenue…like bumperstickers, or something like that.

Traveling all weekend? You’re not a part time bible salesman are ya?

Somebody wake up Ken Block, Hoons McSmitty’s great, great Hoonerator grandson, Krider has arrived.
-
Awesome! I have a Alfa I’m seeing this weekend… photos into the submission can!
-
I have never seen R-comps do that, ever. Most times out even cars with all-season tires grip better than that. What the hell going on with the surface?
-
Oh, sweet hoonage! That pony would be eating cones if I were behind the wheel- no concept of drifting whatsoever. Was this course pre-planned, or timed? I couldn’t make out any discernible pattern.
-
Yeah, but how cheaty was that Mustang.
Remind me to tell y’all about Cheatonium — it’s measured on the Krider Scale.-
I’m guessing he ran in the “Modified the Shit Out of It (MSOI)” class.
-
Allegedly it was F STOCK. I wonder if he was still in first place after the post race tech inspection.
Sort of reminds me of my attempts to autocross my 77 Corvette in the early 90s. I had about as mush wheelspin as this guy, but usually hung on to the drift a little too long and ended up flying backwards and stalling the car. That’s how I learned that you can stall an automatic transmission.

There’s actually a lot of mods you can do to a car in F Stock to make it a runner and that car had just about everything you can do, done to it. I raced against ole Krider in the San Francisco region autocross scene in my 1LE Camaro Z28 (and beat his ass… a few times –sorry Rob I had to drop it!). There aren’t a lot of shenanigans going on with that Mustang because S.C.C.A. loves their rulebook. I think what you are seeing, and I know this because I rode with Krider once (never again), is less questionable parts and more heavy right foot. There is a part of everyman’s brain that tells someone when to lift the throttle before a corner, I think he was just plain old born without it.
