Audi has an excellent sporting sedan with its updated S4. There’s a problem though, and it exists within the automaker’s own family. It’s called the Audi RS3.
Which would you choose if you were in the market for such a car? The S4 has more room and can be had for less depending on how its spec’d. The RS3 makes 400 horsepower from its inline five-cylinder engine, awesome noise from its exhaust, and features RS-tuned suspension, steering, and quattro all-wheel-drive.
You’re not going to wind up with a bad car, no matter which one wins your heart (and cash). You might be reconsidering though, anytime you find yourself next to the other in traffic.
Which one would you choose?
Which would you choose: the Audi S4 or the Audi RS3?

Why don’t you come by my house someday and bring both of those cars. Then I’ll let you know.
-
Or you could get a new ZL1 1LE AND a B5 S4
-
Neither is the easy answer. The lighter, more powerful RS3 is the more difficult one.
-
Quantitatively, the RS3 beats the S4 in everything but volume, but longitudinal V6 beats transverse I5.
-
mmmmmm, i’m gonna hand the win to I5 on exhaust note.
-
The thing about the RS3, is the next stage is comparing against a Golf R, and dropping another cylinder – and the Golf R wins with 20k change to play with.
So if I lived in the US and hand ankle biters to ferry around, what I’d buy for the money is.. a GT86 and a Sienna.
I don’t really get fast family cars, you’re just gonna end up cleaning up baby sick off the seats.-
Only thing better than a fast sedan is a fast wagon.

The family is not in the car all the time

True, but with a limited pot, I’d take a nimble wee sports car + comfy utility mobile over a fast wagon, which though powerful is still going to be a heavier beast. Just me though.

The TT RS wins. Neither of the others interest me.

Coupes get an automatic demerit for lack of utility. 5D>4D>3D>2D>convertible
