We're Giving Away A Set Of Michelin Tires!…Just Answer These Three Questions

Apparently this is the summer of Hooniverse giveaways. We handed out a bunch of gear from Meguiar’s. I sent someone the new 3M Paint Defender to check out. Now, however, we’re on to our best contest yet because the winner will end up with a set of new rubber shoes for their ride. No, we didn’t team up with Sears to give away the cheapest set of 175s they have left over from 1982. Michelin stepped up and wants us to hand over their all-new Pilot Sport A/S 3, which is the same tire I sampled earlier in the year back in New Orleans.

We’re not simply going to give these to the first person to photoshop me in some ridiculous manner. Although, if you want to do that you know it’s always highly encouraged around these parts. For this competition, however, we are giving away the tires to the first person who correctly answers three questions. The questions are below the jump and, if you know this group of readers, you know you need to act fast to find the answers. There’s also a video down there to tell you a bit more about the tires.

Okay, here are your three questions:

  1. What unique, sustainable oil is used in the helio compound of the PS A/S 3 to allow greater flexibility in low temperatures while maintaining rigidity in higher temperatures?
  2. When was The Michelin Man first introduced in Michelin advertisements?
  3. After a careful study of market trends and monitoring the actions of its two major global competitors, Michelin made the decision in 1989 to purchase which tire company?

There you go… first person to get all three correct wins the rubber. If it happens to be the very first comment posted, so be it.

          1. I now relate Bibendum to the book "Pattern Recognition" by William Gibson. You can see why he used it as a form of marketing that had such a large (negative) affect on Pollard.

          2. I always enjoy your smart-assed nudges. And that picture? Yeah, I'm gonna have nightmares.

        1. Too bad you didn't win. I would have loved to see you ask for a set of Michelin Pilots for your KV Mini…or the Saab… or the Maestro…or the Skyliner. Clearly you're at the heart of their target demographic!

          1. Or the Freeway, or the MG Metro, or the Lyman. Yeah, I'm pretty sure they aren't available in any size I run. I was serious below in my comment about 4.00-8, as the KV did come with Michelin tires originally. KV vulcanized their own tread onto Michelin casings for the rear tires, but I concede that might be too much to ask.

    1. Per Michelin, they want the date he was used in an advertisement. Which you can also find pretty easily… if you revise this comment quickly enough, I'll mark you the winner.

    2. The date it was used in an advertisement was 1898. I looked at the Wiki page too quickly and first saw 1894.

    1. Tirerack.com is your new best friend… but I think you'd probably be better off with some grabby BFGs for a truck application

      1. Yep. Tirerack makes it way to easy to get tires.
UPS man should have my new set on my doorstep when I get home. I'm a little giddy.

    2. I used the Goodyear Wrangler GS-A, then the Michelin LTX M/S on my '95, and I usually got 36-40k miles out of a set.

      1. See above. I like these a lot, but I'm not committed to Goodyear. If I find a good deal on Michelin's, I'll take it.

        1. I switched from the GS-As because they quit making them in a size I could use. I originally put on the 245/70-15, since it was a 70-series, almost the same height as the stock 235/75-15. I liked the asymmetrical tread design, but the one negative that I did notice about them was that they were very balance-sensitive; after they'd worn awhile, they would vibrate, and need rebalancing.

    1. My first viewing of way back when this caused a reaction akin to choking. It still makes me giggle.

      1. Me too. I was surprised that this was not a .gif yet, because I would watch that all damn day. Though it is nice to hear the roar and screech.

  1. You should do a snow tire giveaway in October. Except that instead of running a contest, just give them to me.
    Well it's worth a shot.
