Truck Thursday: Rod Millen's Pikes Peak Toyota Tacoma

By Jason Connor Mar 12, 2015

A 2.1 liter, turbocharged, 1,000 horsepower 4-cylinder monster of a hill climb tube-chassis racecar truck. In the late 90’s in the prime of the dirt track layout of The Pikes Peak International Hillclimb this Tacoma was the king, dominating the 1998-99 “Race to the Clouds” event. I remember playing Gran Turismo 2 and running up the hill in a Suzuki Escudo and I have been fascinated with Pikes Peak ever since.

If you have never seen or heard of this truck, enjoy the sights and sounds of this beast.

  1. Rod Millen, and MillenWorks, have made some amazing contributions to the automotive world as far as both one-off technological systems, and other prototyping. Pretty amazing group of clever people.

    1. I believe it was.
Not hard to imagine how that truck silhouette could canvas the Toyota IMSA racer.
