Tony Montero: Let’s Refinish the Face

mitsubishi montero grille repaint

My 1991 Mitsubishi Montero needs a bit of love on its face. The grille and headlight surrounds are chipping and the black paint I sprayed a few years prior is fading. So I set out on an easy fix to help clean all that up.

Yes, I will need to do this again down the road, but for now, I am quite happy with how it looks. In the future, I will spend far more time sanding the grille to get it totally smoothed out and remove the past paint runs. But let’s be real here… this is a vehicle that I enjoy flinging up dirt-covered trails and through tree-lined forest paths. I’m going to scratch it, ding it, and enjoy the hell out of getting it filthy. So for this truck, this job is more than good enough.

  1. The gloss black on satin black looks rather nice Jeff. But the nice grill kind of makes the the scruffy bumper and rock chipped hood stand out more.
And what are those things under the headlights? Headlight washer nozzles?

    1. Yeah headlight washers, they were standard kit on the top trim LS models like this one.

Bumper could certainly use a repaint. And the hood too of course. But those are bigger jobs.
