I can build plenty of Lego items… as long as all the parts I need are in front of me, and I have detailed instructions. The sort of folks who can craft all sorts of amazing things due to an intense knowledge of every brick and how to make them work always blow my mind. This latest bit of brain-melting awesome comes courtesy of Banana Gear Studios on YouTube. They’ve managed to craft an automotive… factory.
Yes, you read that right. This clearly engineering-minded person has crafted an automated factory to build cute little Lego cars. Now, their original plan was to build far more complex vehicles, but the nature of doing this all in Lego means scaling back on their ambitions. So another car design was crafted, and the factory was built, tested, and continually improved.
Until, eventually, it pieced together pre-built sections of the vehicle and then pushed it down a ramp and out of “the factory”. Massively impressive regardless of the original goal versus the final result. And with this sort of skill, I could see an updated version of the factory that could handle more complex automotive designs.
That is fantastic. And the first bit illustrates what compromises manufacturers go through to design a car that’s manufacturable. Would a car maybe be better a certain way? Sure, but the cost and effort to make it that way are prohibitive.
