You love driving. You’re in the market for a new car. Luckily, the world is currently your oyster because there’s pretty much a great option for you at every price point. Mazda recently released their updated MX-5, the Mustang is a great buy, and there’s always the Hellcat if you hate money and tires but love noise and shenanigans.
Maybe though, you should forget all of that and look at the Subaru BRZ…
[Disclaimer: Subaru tossed us the keys to the BRZ Series.Blue for a week, and included a tank of gas. I tried and was able to fit a baby seat in the back.]
Subaru BRZ Series.BlueIt's Not A Miata… Thankfully
-
After driving one for the first time last Friday, I’d love to see what Subaru/Toyota could do with a 2nd generation of the BRZ/FR-S. I didn’t have a chance to really test the supposed amazing handling, but the road feel and weight/directness of the steering were enough to leave me wanting much, much more. As for it vs. the Miata…going to have to see how bad this body roll is in the ND, but it seems like it comes down to minor preferences with both being great cars.
This Series.Blue, though…why? More specifically, who? Who could green-light a car that’s painted a different color from the one it’s named after? Gotta say, it does look great in WRB, though. That exact car on gold wheels with some type of forced induction and AWD…make it happen, Subaru!-

It was probably green-lit by some yellow-bellied executive in a purple suit. It’s enough to make you see red, isn’t it?

There was a time when I was completely against open top driving. It didn’t make the car faster, made the car floppier, I was totally against it, until I drove the Miata. Body roll is easily fixed with some sway bars. And I just love the exhilaration of having the top down. I can’t dislike the BRZ, though. If I were buying a new car and needed a hard top, this would most likely be what I would get.

Nicely done with the bedding track for the commentary. Just enough so you know it’s there without being distracting.

Yeah I’ve been playing with a track completely fading out as I speak to just leaving a little in the background. I prefer having a little bit hang around.

One of my patients recently acquired one of these. We were comparing it to my ’13 white BRZ and not much has changed in 3.5 years. Love the color but we both agree that the spoiler lips are too low for driveways and parking curbs.
