The mind searches for understanding and finding none wanders off, bewildered, to find a beer.
So, am I to assume that that's some sort of inline six diesel? More informations, pleeze!
Sounds straight all right, straight out of a W123.
I'm right there with you, bewildered, beer and all.
Every scrap of info I found on this beast pointed right back to this same video. I finally said screw it, here's the damn video. If anyone does find out more about this mad-scientist's creation, be sure to us know!
(cracks open another bewilder-beer)
It's a Cummins 4bt engine conversion….the same engine as used in snack delivery step vans and small UPS vans. Pretty cool!
A four-cylinder! I thought I counted four intake runners, but I figured it had to be a six. If I ever wanted to diesel the Eagle, this would be a top notch candidate.
Thanks… that is the exact engine I need for when my 2.3 conks out in the Ranger.
stop him he's slowly getting away……..
Here is a better Smoky Panther http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWnMuH10tX0&NR…
That is definitely much better. I must be missing something here, but I don't get the point of taking a performance car (looks like it started as a cop car) and dropping in a delivery truck engine.
That's really, really cool. Want one with a 6bt if possible.
I guess the key is to find a car with a big enough bay, a spare running truck with the whole drivetrain, and swap them right in! Though in my neck of the woods the cheapest Cummins Rams cost around $10,000, so this isn't exactly cheap. However, if there is a truck/delivery van with a
Po-Po-Five-OhPolice 4.6 swapped in that would also be pretty sweet.I know that the diesel guys like black smoke like Harley guys like obnoxious straight exhaust, but there is no reason that that thing should be running that rich right off of idle. It would also be cooler if it were a 6, but even with the four, it's redefining what it means to be awesome. Lean out the mixture a bit, and go terrorize the streets.
Yeah, that's the problem with diesel smoke. It looks great, but its also wasted fuel that could otherwise be making power. Such a terrible choice, power or obnoxious smoke…hmm, that reminds me, I need to order the new turbo for my TDI.
Dam you! Dam you for making me see that just before my bed time! It will be at least another half hour of looking at 4bt swaps. Dam YOU!!
Do love the panther. Maybe an old caprice……
Watch this and then refer back to my comment from yesterday regarding the ease with which a GM 6.5L turbodiesel could be swapped into an XJS.
