Ryan Tuerck is putting a Judd V10 in his GR Supra. The Formula Drift skid racer has the engine but he needs to make sure it’s in good working order. Who is the best team to take a look and tune a Judd engine? That would be the people who originally built it back in the United Kingdom. Tuerck ships his engine off to Judd headquarters and joins in as the team over there hook the GV4 V10 up to their dyno after upgrading the injection system.
Ryan finally gets to hear his engine wail on up to its 11,000 rpm redline. He also gets a healthy “oh shit!” moment when the engine suddenly cuts out during one of the runs. Having sold an entire race car to buy this engine, that’s not what you want to see or hear. Turns out it was a sensor telling the engine to shut down and no harm was done. In fact, it performed as it should.
The next step is to get the Supra torn apart and ready to accept its brilliant new powertrain. This is my current favorite build on the Internet right now (especially since my own project is collecting dust) so I’ll keep you updated as Ryan moves closer to firing this thing up.
It’s an impressive engineering project, but overkill builds aren’t really my thing. Props to the guys attempting it, though.
I think overkill is the barrier to entry in Formula D. Even the “plain” LS builds need to be crazy powerful to keep up with the rest.
Oh yeah, I’m sure it is. I just typically focus on more practical vehicles. When builds get over 500 hp I sort of lose interest because I’m not into racing, even though I respect the work that goes into such ventures. That, and in my opinion, even the best mill loses its lustre when dropped into a new Supra. I’m sorely disappointed in that car’s design.
Agreed, over 500hp the ratio of cubic dollars to breaking stuff to actually using full power probably changes

overkill is the inevitable endpoint of any motorsport formula without constant revision of the rules.
I can understand that but this choice of engine is particularly inspired.
Agreed… which is why I said that the project was “impressive” and gave “props to the guys attempting” the build. Those are Le Mans engines, right? I thought the subject deserved a positive comment, but I felt that anything but full disclosure would have been insincere. I’m impressed despite my general disinterest in such builds.
