While cruising over at Car Throttle Blog, I saw this posting. One of the writers posted raw video from HighGearMedia, with the Rapide driving around through the foothills of Valencia, Spain. So without wasting any time, enjoy the image above, and make the make the jump to enjoy the video!
While you’re having an Astongasm, why not prolong the pleasure with this video released earlier of the Rapide that shows the Rapide lapping the famous Nurburgring racetrack in Germany and Stelvio Pass in the Italian Alps. Stelvio Pass has been named the greatest driving road in the world by Top Gear.

New Video of the Aston Martin Rapide: Makes the Panamera look Dowdy!
-
Absolutely gorgeous car and indeed it makes the Panamera look dowdy, but if you want acceleration over looks, the Panamera was clocked by Car and Driver 0-60 in just 3.3 seconds! Hard to believe that a car weighing 4400 pounds with only 500HP can accomplish that but they claim it's true.

…Car? Where?
Oh! That thing in front of the girl! I see it now.

The Panamera vs. Rapide banter has been getting more heated lately. I know at least one person who doesn't think the Panamera is bad looking. And, to be truthful, it has grown on me.
However, the Panamera is not an inherintly beautiful car. I think the reason why the Panamera has grown on me is because it is a very capable car. In comparing the performance expectations of the Rapide vs. those of the Panamera, the Panamera wins pretty handily. The Porsche reaches 60 mph in about 4 seconds (less for a higher performance model), and the Rapide doesn't get there until about 5 seconds.
The Rapide, on the other hand, is inherintly beautiful. The Aston Martin design language scales up for the larger saloon car much better than that of Porsche. Even though it isn't as powerful or quick as it's German competitor, it is generally much more desirable and lustworthy.
It's an interesting conundrum. Would you rather have more speed and sport in a less desirable package, or a more beautiful wrapper around decent performance?-
I can forgive the Aston's reduced performance because of its looks. However, I cannot forgive the Porsche's unattractive looks because of its performance.

Very few people can see the difference one second makes going 0 – 60. A proper Aston owner will not talk about lap times so as to not lose the beautiful ladies attention. So for me it is the Lust of the Aston over the spec sheet of the Porsche.
-
Well– the difference between going from 0-60 in 10 or 11 seconds is not much.
The difference between 0-60 in 3 or 4 seconds is quite a lot.

As a Porsche fangurl, I want to argue this. Something tells me the Porsche will be more sturdy, break less, be MORE of a car. I've even been in a Panamera and loved it. Shouted about its beauty to the heavens. But I have to say, the Rapide is so beautiful it brings a tear to my little eye. Le Sigh…

One needs more power. One needs more boobies.

Beautiful car. You know, that first video reminds me of seeing Europe from the back of a canvas-canopied Deuce and a Half, watching all those great Italian and German cars coming up close behind us, then blasting past. Or, was it memories of riding in the back of a Country Squire wagon as a kid, watching Camaros, Novas, 'Vettes and the like roaring around the thing while we rode backwards in the rear seat watching through the back window? Without the carbon monoxide buzz from the exhaust being sucked in.

Eh, the Panamera looks plenty dowdy without the Rapide to compare to. Then again, a DB9/V8 Vantage make a 911 look dowdy. Porsche doesn't really do gorgeous, they do functional and German, so I've never had a problem with the Panamera's styling (just being forced to take the DSG in the very hypothetical event I was buying one).

You should have posted a side by side shot. 😉

Beautiful. The car and its wheelbase looks absolutely huge. But room enough for most of the dancers to come back with me from the club.
