Mystery Car

Last week’s Mystery Car was kind of a tricky one, being a one-off from a TV mini-series. That said, while taking a little longer than usual, you didn’t let me down and came up with both the car – the Hawk from the mini-series, Arthur Hailey’s Wheels – as well as the actors leaning on it. Those were Rock Hudson and Lee Remick, and they should have been careful not to put too much weight on that prop car as it was mostly sculpted foam over a standard AMC Javelin.
Today’s candidate will be much easier – and is much less photogenic than either the Hawk of those two actors in their prime. This red droptop should be well known to those of you who appreciate sushi, and I fully expect you to fugu it out in no time flat. Happy hunting!

The "Japanese" part of the teaser … could it be referring to the optional CA18ET Nissan engine?

Reliant had hoped to sell the Scimitar roadster in the US. The original 1984 version was deemed too ugly, so a restyle was commissioned and some LHD prototypes were built. However, Reliant had chronic financial troubles and could never really get its act together enough to actually hit the US market.

It looks an awful like the Scimitar to me. Look at the character line below the window, the three top snaps, the door handle, the trunk lid gap, etc. Could this be a picture that's been flipped, to make it *look* like it's LHD?

TVR was my first guess, but it turns out they had one-piece side glass.

My guess would be a Triumph TR-7 , upon further research it cannot be a Triumph or MGB they both had corner windows on there tops .

If you look close you can see this is a manual top there are snaps across the back , might be some sort of "Spyder" .

My first thought was Fiat 850, but I've never had Italian sushi.

That looks like a folding power top if you look close in the above pic you can see three snaps across the back as well , making me think this is a manual top

This is damn hard to do on a phone I take it no one has guessed the right car so I'll take another stab how about a Suzuki Cappuccino or a Honda Beat ?
