Mecum Madness: 1983 Lincoln Quicksilver concept set to cross the block


It’s that time of year again. I find myself booking a flight, figuring out my hotel situation, and perusing a long list of cars… because I’m off to the Mecum auction in Kissimmee, Florida. I attend with my car-buying friend, and our goal is to find gems at the right price – just like most folks who attend the auction. I prefer Mecum to the other auctions because it feels like a blue-collar crowd that’s worked hard and can finally afford those toys they’ve always wanted.

While going through the list of cars set to cross the block, I stumbled across this excellent gem built by Lincoln. It’s the 1983 Lincoln Quicksilver concept and it’s what Robocop would drive if he married a Robowife and had Robokids. The original Robocop, of course, not the rebooted version that’s about to hit movie theaters.

Designed in Italy by Ghia, this concept was created in 1983 for the Geneva Motor Show. This is a fully functional concept vehicle with power coming courtesy of a Ford 2.8-liter V6 engine, which is paired with a five-speed manual gearbox. That setup is mounted ahead of the rear wheels and pairs perfectly with the Quicksilver’s low .30 coefficient of drag. That figure is the same as a Koenigsegg CCX and less than a Lexus LFA.

Look at the interior and tell me you didn’t just fall in love. You didn’t? You lie!

Pre-auction estimates peg the Quicksilver as selling for between $60,000 and $75,000. I’ll be on stage when it crosses the block… so I can caress its concept skin and smell it’s lovely interior.
