Let's look at the 2018 Chevy Silverado right before the 2019 arrives

Chevrolet is prepping its 2019 Silverado for market. The fresh version of the mainstay in the Bow Tie pickup lineup looks sharp with its new sheet metal. Additionally, the new 3.0-liter diesel option should prove to be an intriguing option in the full-size 1/2-ton market. But the 2019 isn’t quite here yet. So that’s why I’m driving a 2018 Chevy Silverado to see what we’re about to say good-bye to, and also to find out if you should scoop one up or wait for the next model year to arrive.
This is a 2018 Silverado LTZ ZL1 Heritage package truck equipped with the 6.2-liter V8. That means it’s not cheap. But is it any good? Let’s click play on the video above and find out.
Spoiler for those who can’t watch the video at work: It’s… alright. But you should definitely wait for the new one.

Waiting for the new one means getting a first year model, a bad idea historically for reliability. In addition, I think the outgoing model looks much cleaner than the new one. This 2018 with the 6.2 has been around and likely has most of the kinks ironed out.

Out of curiosity, I just googled “2019 Silverado”, and I’m thinking if not for the Ford association, it should be called the Edsel. Damn, but the front styling on that thing is a train wreck. Chevrolet desperately needs new designers.

GM needs a Chief Marketing Officer, they have been without one for many years. Mary Barra doesn’t think they need one. In a healthy organization, the marketing troops can serve to leaven, influence the designs….prevent disasters like Aztec. When I see the “Real People, Not Actors” ( https://youtu.be/zSBsq6HBBzw ) spots on TV, I am reminded how completely clueless the GM marketing apparatus has become.

It’s a shame there are so many fools who still buy GM crap. I tried giving general motors three tries, thinking they must have changed and made improvements over the years, but always discovered it was a mistake. GM is the king of ‘planned obsolescent’ junk. Every GM vehicle I see on the road makes me cringe a little bit at how stupid Americans can be. If you want to buy American buy Ford, or heck, even Chrysler/Whoever-Chrysler-is-joined-with-at-the-moment would be better than anything from GM.

P.S. My mom’s ’02 Sebring runs and looks almost new and hasn’t needed anything but gas and oil for years, and it was a daily driver for work before she retired.
