Last Call: If you had to pick one…

Carfection just completed a three-part test of some of the most amazing machines ever built. Henry Catchpole hopped behind the wheel of a McLaren F1, Mercedes-Benz AMG CLK GTR, and a Porsche 911 GT1. His conclusion, at the end of the test, is that if he had to pick one to stare at it would be the Benz, to drive solely on a track it would be the Porsche, and to keep forever it would be the McLaren. And honestly, that conclusion makes sense to us.

But if you had to pick one… which would you choose?

Last Call indicates the end of Hooniverse’s broadcast day. It’s meant to be an open forum for anyone and anything. Thread jacking is not only accepted, it’s encouraged.

  1. Before I make my choice, may I have a look at the trucks that tote each one around? I’m asking on behalf of a friend.

  2. There’s no loser here, as they are all amazing cars, but the McLaren defines the category. Most iconic machine of its generation.

    1. Meh, replying to myself because I can’t edit….
The P-car as a prototype was carbon and golden Warsteiner livery, which looked positively evil. And Stuck commented on the 5ft of flames that shot from the exhausts “oh that’s just a software bug. We’ll fix that for Le Mans”
Two mind boggling things for a teenage nanoop. But then again, today, I already have a Porsche.

  3. Along with everyone else, I would choose the McLaren, no contest. What I don’t understand is the desire to admire the Mercedes… that thing is fugly.

    1. I wouldn’t go quite so far as “fugly”, but I hear you. I’m not sure how the GT1 racer with pasted-on E-class styling for brand recognition beat out the purpose-built McLaren F1 (or, for that matter, the 911-that-hit-the-gym GT1).

Unrelated note: how often is it that you have a 3-way comparo in which all the participants have roof scoops?!
