Last Call: How good would a Fisker electric pickup be?

By Colby Buchanan Feb 18, 2020

I’ve been a fan of Fisker since it appeared on Top Gear many years ago. But then they went bankrupt though they seem to have recovered. Henrik Fisker was on hand at CES to show off a new concept called the Ocean. And it seems he has more in store for the brand bearing his name.

Fisker has teased an electric truck and I am honestly optimistic that it could be a great car. While they haven’t given us too much of a reason to get excited in the past, the variety in the lineup that they are working on has to be appreciated. Do you think that this is going to be a flop? Or will we not even see any make it to the road?

Last Call indicates the end of Hooniverse’s broadcast day. It’s meant to be an open forum for anyone and anything. Thread jacking is not only accepted, but it’s also encouraged.

  1. I have no appetite for Fisker’s designs. I thought the Karma was a hot mess, inside and out. The Latigo was an exercise in making an ugly BMW 6-Series even uglier, and the Tramonto looked like an SL55 wearing a cheap Aston Martin mask. At least the Fisker Ocean suggests that not everything Henrik creates gets a giant Sharpie mustache, but it’s still not very appealing.

So, color me unenthused about the possibility of a Fisker EV truck. Besides, I don’t envision anything looking better than the Rivian R1T.

  2. If they can’t keep the tires inside the wheel wells even in the concept art* I think it’s quickly (and literally) going to go pear-shaped. Doesn’t anyone think of what happens when the mud gets flung out in all directions?

*which has an inexcusable line through the center of it

  4. The Karma looks a bit “much” in pictures, but the one time I saw one in Russia, I had to utter a sound of joy. These things look hot in real life. A pickup might be a way to actually earn some money in the US…or to just ride the Rivian-wave for a bit.

We’re on winter vacation, which was a tough ride. Waited one hour to join a mountain pass convoy, until we got a message that the storm was easing up and it turned into free travel. While waiting, there were countless cars with roof boxes to observe. We have our ski equipment inside the car, all the other stuff in the boot.

Hence, question: Do you prefer to pack lightly, or to extend your packing opportunities onto the roof, trailer hitch etc.?

    1. My wife in particular prefers to travel lightly, and pretty much refuses to check a bag when flying (don’t worry, we still stick to our carry-on limitations – we once did two weeks in New Zealand using just one backpack and Ikea duffle bag each). That’s been a little more challenging now that we have a baby, although we’ve managed to contain everything we need for a weekend (including a stroller and collapsible crib) within my little Mazda2.

    2. I prefer to pack very lightly, but my wife insists take everything she/we might possibly need. Naturally, she must be obeyed, so we travel in a not-so-minivan with a cargo topper, packed to the gills. If I had my way, each family member would have a backpack, and whatever fits is what they take, and I’d stick a cooler in the van.

  5. Won’t Renault have something to say about the name being so similar to their own pick-up, the Alaskan. Currently existing purely so Renault dealers can sell a Navara. Renault did chase after Mazda a few years ago, in the 90s, when they tried to come up with a new logo that was too similar to the Renault diamond. Mazda had to change it to the current M

    1. Probably too busy avoiding awkward questions about cello case hiding despots to pursue it these days.
