Hooniverse Weekend Edition: This is a Toyota?

By Jim Brennan Jun 19, 2010

Toyota recalled a boatload of Tacoma Pickup Trucks for a Frame Rust issue. They extended the warranty, but apparently it wasn’t enough for this enterprising owner. This is just another reader submission by long time Hoon Paul (Thanks Man!). See more shots after the jump….

According to Boston.com:

If your Tacoma pickup develops frame rust, Toyota will repair the damage and extend the body warranty to 15 years and unlimited miles, free of charge. If you do nothing, it may mutate into this:

This thing is either in bad taste, or is so full of awesome, I can’t decide. Why not leave your comments as to the merits of this one-of-a-kind Toyota….

  1. Its a juxtaposition, the front end looks like a picassoesque take on an old pickup from… 30's or 40's maybe. The back end is super future retro cool.
If they kept one style or the other it might look better. Both at once makes my brain sad.
Looking better than it does is not saying much though.

  2. There's a Dodge 3/4 ton Cummins diesel pickup I've seen around here that has a front end welded up like this, but it's even uglier. My guess is that it plowed into something and the owner figured building his own front clip was cheaper than replacing the hood, quarter panels, and grille. I'll have to remember to take a picture of it next time I see it.

  3. Ha! I know that truck. That is over in Allston. I use to live two blocks from where that dude parks. I think the guy works at a body shop over there, It didn't look like this the last time I saw it though. The front looked more like a plain hot rod.

  4. He's widened the track too. Must be fun to drive this thing down fresh pond parkway!
For those not familiar with Boston, it's 2 narrow lanes in each direction with curves and no center divider.

  5. I imagine that the front end of that thing could be uglier, but it would require more imagination than the builder possesses. We should all count our lucky stars.

  6. Call it whatever you like, retro-futurist, steampunk rat rod, art deco monstrosity, that thing is bad ass. The front end looks like it rolled straight out of "Duel"

  7. Some sort of frightening steampunk monstrocity from a post-apocalyptic nightmare.
It is scary, though, I'll give it that!

  8. I love ugly truck beasts like this. I'll wager this guy never has to worry about getting cut off in traffic, even in Boston. And if someone oblivious does hit him, he didn't lose much. Just find another couple rusty body panels, and away he goes!
